WELCOME TO MY HANDPHONE STAND DESIGN BLOG. This blog will document the thought process into creating this phone stand.π±
IDEA:
I first took inspiration from a small cute animal, a chicken.π£ I wanted to make a personalised cute phone case that would suit my style. Hence, I also thought of functionality, I share a room with my littler sister so I created a design for a phone stand that can hold both our phones. And I also implement an adjusting design so the phone can lie in portrait or landscape form.
DIMENSIONS:ππ
Length: 15.3 cm
Width: 8.5 cm
Thickness: 1.5 cm
SKETCH:✏
For the sketch, I started off with the backing support that will look like a chick. I sketch a rectangle slightly larger than the dimensions of my phone, Then a created a circle that overlaps with the rectangle having the same diameter as the rectangle. I trimmed off the lines that overlaps each other, then added two circles and a triangle to make the face of the chick. I then created two more circles at the bottom of the rectangle for the support I am going to add, and two thin rectangles at the sides to add the adjustment tabs. Finally, i fillet the corners for a neater look.
I then added the the support or where the phone will be supported at an angle. I extended the sketch and added two circles that are align with the previous two circles. I added a rectangle surrounding the outer two circles to make the platform where the phone can rest at an angle. By using the fillet tool to round the corners of the rectangle to give the overall product a neater look.
To make the phone stand two-sided, I then proceeded to make to large circles on the other side of the support to make another platform for another phone to stand/lean on.
And finally, for a personal touch, I engrave a heart on the center of the design.
PRODUCTπ
Below will be some images of the design after I have extruded the sketch. The thickness of the material extruded is 1.5 cm but will vary from the actual material given.
REFLECTION:
I had so much fun designing this phone stand. It was a little hard for me to design using the software especially designing the support components due to space constraint. I had to redo the sketch numerous times because it always turn out slanted or not identical to each other. The extruding part was also a little tedious as extruding both sides causes the software to glitch and erase the extruded part. But those were just little obstacles I came across while make the phone stand. I loved designing by taking in my ideas and the functionality and making it come to live. If possible I would like to cut this to be able to put it together or even 3D print it. The measurements are definitely in need of adjustment but that will be done in the making of the product for trial and error. Overall, I was glad I was able to apply what I learnt in CAD into making my Chick Phone Stand Design.
